A research group from Napier University developed a sensor system which is capable of tracking, from above, the body movement of people. During a demonstration of this system 5000 children were tested who had to walk a specific path under the sensors. The results were very different so that the most children who did sports performed very well and those who did not had difficulties in coping with the challenge. Due to this result the idea arose to create a therapeutic tool which uses the sensor system to help medical and therapeutic personnel in the diagnosis and treatment of people with move-ment dyspraxia.

Hence, the aim of this project was to create a prototype of such a system which could be demonstrated to medical and therapeutic professionals. During the development of the prototype a further purpose of use was discovered for the system which means that it could also be used to analyse the hand-eye coordination of a person. The prototype was constructed in such a way that the body movement could be tracked with the help of the sensor system and the movement of the arm and hand could be tracked with the help of a PC mouse to test hand-eye coordination. The implemented prototype is able to run with the sensor system but unfortunately, could not be tested. Instead of this the hand-eye coordination was tested and analysed with 44 people. The results appear very promising. They showed that the results of the only dyspraxic test subject and the only two dyslexic test subjects differ appreciably from the results of the people without conditions.

These results and also the fact that the prototype was evaluated by a medical profes-sional as very interesting, lead to the conclusion that the project was as complete suc-cess and that further research and development should be made for such a therapeutic and diagnostic system.
