Over thirty years experience in electronics focusing mainly on embedded systems and analogue front-ends. He has designed several embedded systems for industry ( mostly proof-of-principle developments) and for student laboratory use. Our recent laboratory setup is equipped with enhanced 8051 processors, embedded Ethernet modules and IEEE 802.15.4 wireless transceivers (CC2420 types) allowing our students to develop core embedded system skills, an understanding of network connected devices and Wireless Sensor Networks. In recent years he has worked on the fringes of the Specknet Consortium developing a small WSN system for social networking. He has also supported a number of Honours projects on the subject of WSN and relating technologies. He is currently focusing on wireless sensor networks and have some experience with a range of system solutions including, Zigbee, SimpliCiTI, Xbee and Synapse Wireless. Completed a feasibility study for a WSN based distributed temperature monitoring system. This work was undertaken as an EDTC Technology Gateway project for an industrial partner. Currently, working on the development of an embedded development environment to support the teaching of Android, Linux, QNX and Windows Compact 7 environments.
