Centre for Social Informatics team wins new funding for information literacy research

29/03/2016

The Centre for Social Informatics has been awarded funding for a research project on information literacy that focuses on the information practices of community councillors.

Professor Hazel Hall, Peter Cruickshank and Dr Bruce Ryan will evaluate how Community Councillors (1) access and understand information on their duties and rights; (2) keep up to date with local developments of relevance to the communities that they serve; and (3) disseminate information to their communities. The work will also identify where future efforts need to be directed to improve the skills and practices of this group. The findings of this research will contribute to strategies to improve citizen engagement in the democratic process at community level.

Information Literacy for Democratic Engagement (IL-DEM) will be launched in Autumn 2016. The project is funded by the CILIP Information Literacy Group.

For further details of the project please see the post on Hazel Hall's blog.
