University Researchers Reveal Methods Used to Crack Passwords in Ashley Madison Hack

Introduction

The research team within The Cyber Academy at Edinburgh Napier University have been outlining the methods used by crackers to reveal the passwords on the Ashley Madison user database.

Overall the crackers exploited several weak software coding practices, such as using lowercase letters for password hashing, and in weaknesses around password resets.
