Professor to Outline Opportunities in Education at Kickstart Summer School

Edinburgh Napier University, The University of Edinburgh, Queen Margaret University and SRUC have an annual Kickstart Summer School. This years sees 150 kids (mainly from widening participation backgrounds) from Mid, West, East Lothian and Dumfries and Galloway on the beautiful Craiglockhart campus in Edinburgh.

As part of the event this year, There will be a graduation ceremony at Craiglockhart on the Friday 18th July, where the students take part in a number of workshops giving them a taste of University life and then will be presented with their certificates in the afternoon.

Near the end, Prof Bill Buchanan will be give a short 15 minute inspirational chat about studying at University, and, in general, on the doors that education can open.

Widening participation activities

Bill has been involved with a number of digital engagement opportunities, which support widening participation for schools, including a collaboration with Bright Red Publishing on the Bright Red Digital Zone.

Along with Richard Macfarlane and Adrian Smales, he has also run a number of Cybersecurity labs as part of IT4U, and created the Xmas Cyber lectures which had around 3,000 kids and teachers attending in 2013.
