Professor Hazel Hall travels to Finland to serve as PhD opponent, and to deliver an invited research paper

Last week Professor Hazel Hall travelled to Åbo Akademi University in the Finnish city of Turku to serve as the opponent at the PhD defence of a thesis entitled Social media and public libraries: exploring information activities of library professionals and users.

Professor Hall also presented an invited research seminar to staff within the School of Business and Economics. Entitled Joining it all up: developing research-practice linkages in the UK, the presentation covered efforts to strengthen research-practice linkages within the UK library and information science community since 2009, and the possible impact of this work. (The slides are available from Professor Hall's Slideshare page. Dr Isto Huvila of Åbo Akademi University also blogged the main points of the  presentation.)

A fuller report of Professor Hall's visit to Finland, and the details of the PhD that she examined, are available in the blog post Social media and public libraries: a doctoral defence in Finland.
