Peter Cruickshank on panel as 'influencer' in Social Media Week event in Glasgow

15/08/2012 24 September, Glasgow

The topic asks Who’s Leading: That is, who (if anyone) within organisations is leading the response to the rise of social media? How can they manage the risks?

While we can encourage individuals to work collaboratively and share information using social media, they face many obstacles when trying to use these tools and techniques back in the workplace.

The obstacles are technical and cultural. Many organisations technically block access to sites, albeit allowing access on request. Culturally, however, they tend not to be very well disposed towards encouraging innovative use of web-based tools and services.

If we can break down the technical barriers, people might be more encouraged work collaboratively and to understand how social media can support workplace learning and development.
