Codes and Secrets: Computer Security and Digital Forensics

A Public Engagement Lecture by Prof Bill Buchanan, Edinburgh Napier University

As we move into an information age, we are all becoming increasing dependent on the Internet in our social and business lives. A fundamental part of this change is the need for information infrastructures which are secure, robust and scaleable.

In this public engagement lecture, Prof Buchanan will present some key principles around Computer Security, and look towards the future of the Internet. Using a series of fun challenges and audience interactions, this presentation outlines a range of methods that are used within computer security, and ultimately shows that virtually every security method can be broken in some way.

In conclusion the presentation will look at new challenges such the Cloud Computing and in the usage of mobile devices, and try to see into the future.

Date: 6pm, Room A.17,  Merchiston, Monday 10 September 2012.
