interaction design ()

Areas of Expertise

Interaction Design is concerned with the design of interactive objects and spaces and with the delivery of high quality user experiences (UX). For example, expressive interaction describes the range of new forms of human-computer interaction that are made available through technologies based on...

Projects

Weather Prediction - Motogoloco
Development of a proof-of-concept prototype for the visualisation of multi-dimensional data affecting motorcycle journeys. The primary problem was to overlay weather forecast data onto a map interface and to synchronise the display with the journey itself.
Youth School: Donor and Beneficiary Interactions "Funding Lab"
The project will carry out a User Experience Review and Wireframe Prototype Development
7Ahead
This project seeks to develop a digital magazine concept as a means of differentiation and to satisfy the perceived demand for customised additional content such as event reviews, images, video and news items on performers, venues and genres.
Innovation and Integrated Learning Environment for Engaging and Ever-changing Educational Content
This project builds on the success of an Innovation Voucher which showcased the integration of fun and challenging on-line Physics material using a wide range of stimulating, ever changing challenges.
Jupiter Artland Digital Experience Design
The aim of this project is to develop a location-based visitor experience that augments the physical experience of Jupiter Artland delivered through an iPhone app.
Context The nature of sport drives people to improve, develop and better their own performances. To do this effectively means hiring a coach but often there are costs and/or geographical issues in finding and using a suitable, experienced person.
CEC Libraries
Edinburgh Napier University's Centre for Interaction Design are working with Edinburgh Central Library to provide a new digital information guide for its visitors. The guide is an intuitive, large screen, multi-touch based interface to the extensive services, events and collections the library...
Mobile Application Development in relation to socio linguistic analysis
IIDI is working with ChatCloud supported by the BIE Innovation Voucher scheme.
IIDI & Jupiter Artland Foundation
IIDI has been successful in obtaining funding for a new collaborative project with Jupiter Artland Foundation http://www.jupiterartland.org/
The substantial opportunities presented to the IT industry by the ageing population of the developed world have been identified by the Foresight Programme. Older people currently control over 80% of the wealth of the county, and many have a substantial disposable income.
Future Energy
Future energy management for buildings.
Webhelp UK Innovation Lab
Webhelp commissioned the Future Interactions group to help them design and develop their new Innovation Lab and collaborative practices at their Derby headquarters. The work is being led by Dr Oli Mival from the Centre for Interaction Design.
UrbanIxD
The UrbanIxD Cordination Action project will define and consolidate a coherent research community working in the domain of technologically augmented, data-rich urban environments; with particular focus on the human activities, experiences and behaviours
Scottish Crofting Federation E-Learning
To develop an e-learning resource wire frame pilot for a single module of a Crofting Entry Level Course developed by the Scottish Crofting Federation.
Torchbearer
The creation of a ‘software-as-a-service’ product to allow Client companies, or their agents, to improve their ‘Propositions’ – their own commercial offers; this is done by removing the need for ‘tweaking’ the offer’s variables Epsilon propels and accelerates the product or service into the market.
This project will use PACT Analysis to evaluate the User Experience (UX) requirements throughout Trucomment's value chain, and identify and prioritise technical enhancements. We aim to apply emerging social media business models, UX trends for online journalism, and related issues in internet...
Dirt School are looking to develop their digital platform, and find new ways of teaching students. They have a requirement for a digital teaching solution that will use innovative video features to allow students to compare their own videos of techniques to pre-recorded video examples.
This was a training programme over two half-days for a group of RBS staff, as follows: "A two half-day workshop on how to realise your UX objectives, for RBS at Dundas Street, Edinburgh. Delivered by Professor David Benyon, author of best-selling text Designing Interactive Systems (3rd Edition...
Exploring the use of mobile based Augmented Reality (AR) for deployment in real world situations.
IIDI is working by Freak Marketing supported by the BIE Innovation Fund.
QR technology and visitor experience
IIDI has been successful in obtaining funding for a new collaborative project with 21Nine Advertising & Design Ltd supported by the SFC Innovation Voucher Scheme.
City of Literature
The aim of this project is to develop a iPhone app and digital strategy for UNESCO Edinburgh City of Literature. The app will provide a guided set of literary trails through Edinburgh based on people such as Robert Louis Stevenson showing the places that he wrote about.
How do we deal with yet another device? How does technology mediate our dealings with other people? When are such mediations welcome, and when are they just annoying? How do we feel about things that think, and spaces that sense? The new field of interaction design explores these concerns.
