This project was commissioned in 2014 by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) and the Archives and Records Association (ARA) The findings are being used by the client organisations  (1) to better understand and monitor trends related to the workforce in the UK library, archives, records, information, and knowledge management sector and (2) use this understanding to plan and develop their activities as related to a wide range of activities including membership growth, advocacy, and policy development.

The project team was led by Professor Hazel Hall, and comprised staff from Edinburgh Napier University's Centre for Social Informatics and the Employment Research Institute.

The main project deliverable was a report that presents the outcomes of a workforce mapping exercise. This includes coverage of those in employment within the UK library, archives, records, information, and knowledge management sectors.

The project findings were launched at an event hosted by CILIP and ARA in London on 24th November 2015. A summary of the main findings is available from the CILIP web site.
