Visual Analytics of Unknown Data Sets

The Business Challenge

Using statistical methods and information visualisation involves working with known data sets to discover information locked within the data. I-nquire believes that businesses could benefit from advanced statistical techniques against arbitrary data sets. An application with this capability could provide better access to business information, and thus better decision-making.

The Solution

case study image

Working with the Employment Research Institute (ERI), Edinburgh Napier’s Institute of Informatics and Digital Innovation assisted in the development of a collection of approaches and prototype tools to enable I-nquire to take their business strategy forward.  By developing a statistical method, working on data cleansing, visualisation techniques, and how these can be integrated together, I-nquire have a clearer idea on the next stages to develop the business.

Partnership Benefits

  • I-nquire benefited from IIDI’s background in visual analytics to determine if their business idea was feasible and best approaches to take it forward.
  • Prototype tools and techniques were developed.
  • Relationship developed between I-nquire & IIDI
